Searching for a job today is almost a job in itself because you are spending so much of your time and effort on it. Enthusiasm, excitement, anxiety, frustration and depression-all these are phases one encounters during a job search. The key point is to take this phase positively and persevere till you get that pot of gold at the end of your job search rainbow- your dream job. In today's cut-throat working environment, looking for a job is not just about working hard but about working Smart.
So to stay ahead of the herd, here are a few tips from the team of Naukri.com, India's No.1 Job portal-
1) Set your priorities right -Don't take a decision by simply imitating your friends, batch mates or depending on word of mouth. Be aware of what is really important to you and what is not, because once your priorities are set, things will automatically start falling into their place.
2) Resume writing - Employers are busy people and they hardly spend more than 30-45 seconds on a resume when they have 500 more to scan through. They are not interested in your entire history as they just want to know what you are best at. So, make your resume to the point and clearly showcase your key skills. In fact some recruiters prefer only single page resumes.
Try out the Resume Services provided by our counselors at Naukri.com.
3) Self-marketing is the key - When you are applying for jobs you are actually selling yourself. So, sound confident, positive and persuasive during an interview, but DO NOT exaggerate about your accomplishments.
4) Knowledge of your field - It is very important to know your field thoroughly. Brush up your knowledge on the who's who of the field, current trends, the competition, the dos and the don'ts and so on. Keep yourself abreast with the latest developments by keeping your eyes and ears open.
5) Tools of Job search - you could begin your job search by scanning newspaper classifieds, talking to job consultants and logging on to premier job websites. Be regular in your search, spend ample time on it and follow-up with the companies where you have applied.
For an internet job search and for Jobs in India you can log on to http://www.naukri.com and check out the vacancies available in your field of specialization.
6) Networking - It pays to know people in high places. Or in a job seeker's world "people in the right place". Networking is an important tool that can help you immensely during the job search. Track friends or contacts in the organization you want to be in, talk to them, and they might be able to open new doors for your dream job.
7) Have patience - 'Patience is a virtue'. Being desperate and anxious does not help much, rather it may spoil your job search. If it's your first step towards your career then think before taking each step. Don't feel inferior just because you are a fresher, after all you will be spending time, energy and intelligence on the firm that will hire you. Don't forget the fact that other employees cannot match the energy level of a fresher.
If you are already working somewhere then don't leave the job just because you are not happy. You're marketable because you are already working with a firm and have added work experience and value to your resume. So, wait for a while.

Maintaining Focus in Your Job Search
Unemployment has become rampant the world over. This has led to frustrations among the rising numbers of job seekers, thereby leading to unintelligent choices and decisions in relation to searching for jobs.
Fraudsters and con men have taken advantage on the situation and are luring unknowing individuals into parting with their hard-earned cash or savings. An employment seeker should be very sober and have a clear conscious when looking for a job, as con men are looking for any loopholes and opportunities to defraud the unemployed.
Frustration may lead one to choose on any job opportunity or vacancy that comes his or her way but this is very inappropriate. One should choose a career that he or she is comfortable with and not just any job due to frustration. A job is something that should be carried out with dedication and commitment and at the same time, one should be happy while working. If one chooses any job, doubts will definitely arise as regards to the commitment and happiness of the worker.
A job seeker should have a plan as to what he or she wants to do. The job seeker should make a number of considerations before taking up on a job opportunity. The following considerations could help in making the right decision.
1. What is the career line of the job seeker?
2. What are the requirements and qualifications needed for the available vacancy?
3. Would the available opportunity be enough to support the job seeker?
4. Is the job a permanent one or a short, part-time job?
5. Does the job have any incentives?
The above considerations are the major issues of concern that the job seeker should look at before making any major decision lest he or she regrets.

Construction Jobs Abroad - Overseas Jobs in the Middle East
It's true that the worldwide economic crisis has affected numerous industries, including construction, where companies in various countries have had to cut down on the number of employees they are hiring and retaining. However, certain areas of the world, particularly the Middle East, remain viable options for those who are looking for construction jobs abroad.
According to research undertaken by the Kuwait National Bank, ongoing and planned development projects in GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) countries -- i.e., the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia -- indicate that jobs will continue to be generated in the years to come. And while the recession has had a big impact on the construction, financial, and information technology industries in the UAE, the job market remains vibrant due to the value of those planned or ongoing projects.
In fact, according to the Kuwait National Bank's study, the aggregate value of those projects is approximately USD 2.1 trillion at the close of the second quarter of 2009. Moreover, the growth of development projects has been promising, at the rate of about 50 percent per annum.
Another promising study, this time conducted by Mercer, showed that approximately 73 percent of companies in the GCC region plan to increase their growth in 2009. One of the ways they aim to do this is by adding to their employee numbers. This "future" trend certainly seems to be true even now. Just browse through the web sites of international recruitment agencies and you will see plenty of job vacancies in the UAE and elsewhere in the GCC.
The region is a popular destination among top-notch expatriate workers in the building industry and other industries for many reasons: no income tax, the progressive yet culturally-rich environment, the diversity of people, etc. It can be an excellent career move for those seeking to work in construction jobs abroad

Jobs For Stay At Home Moms - Become Part of the Online Community
The hardest job in the world is being a stay-at-home mom. Many women make the difficult choice to forgo their hard-earned careers just so their children are not raised by nannies and daycares. But wouldn't it be a breath of fresh air to make your own money again, without having to give up that quality time with your kids? Thanks to the Internet, anything is possible.
There are many ways for moms to be a part of the workforce via the online community. The freedom is there to work when you want, so you can still drive your kids to soccer practice or make dinner while the baby naps. If you organize your time wisely, you can be the momtrepreneur you've always wanted to be through your home-based business.
Telecommuting. Blogging. Multi-Level Marketing (MLM). Responding to emails for online businesses. Advertising.
YouTubing. Generating traffic for affiliate marketers. Online mystery shopping. Representing direct sales. Freelance writing. The various online business ventures available for stay-at-home moms are endless. But, how do you know if you're choosing the right one?
Talk to people. The online community is more closely connected than it seems. For example, if you've decided you want to start a home-based business as a representative for a direct sales marketing company, start out by doing some research; if you're chosen company is legitimate, it will appear on search engines. The next step is to track down people who've had experiences with the same company; again, if the company is for real, you should be able to do so without a hitch.
Make sure the sign-up fee (if there is one) isn't too big. Anything exceeding one hundred dollars should be considered suspect. Granted, companies have to protect themselves by not giving away start-up packages to everyone out there, so a small fee may be justifiable. Nonetheless, go with your instinct - if it seems phony, it probably is.
Be prepared to kiss a few frogs. You probably didn't marry the first man you ever went on a date with. You likely didn't stick with the same job for your entire career. In other words, be prepared to try a couple different online ventures before you find the one that is right for you. Just be cautious in how much time you put into any particular venture until you feel confident about it.
Finally, be realistic. You won't make millions overnight - and if you think you will, get out now. Starting an online home-based business takes time and patience. You need to work diligently and set aside time each day to develop your business. Everything in life is work, and your online business is no exception to this rule.
If you keep the above steps in mind, you will likely see success in the world of online home-based businesses. If you work really hard at it, who knows? You just might be the one putting food on that kitchen table. Start your home-based business today.
To Your Success,

Is Fashion Your Passion? Make Fashion Your Career
Do you live and breathe fashion? Would a fashion career suit your style and aspirations?
For fashion enthusiasts, a fashion career can seem like a dream job; an opportunity to influence society and change the way a nation dresses for the day and evening. Read on to see which fashion career might be right for you.
Fashion careers are essentially of two types - those in fashion design and those in the sales and marketing side of the industry (fashion merchandising). You can further customize your fashion career by choosing to focus on a particular style or kind of garment.
Other fashion career opportunities include costume design for TV, film and theater productions; personal stylist positions with high-end department stores and private clients, fashion photography; and modeling work for everything from newspapers ads to strutting the catwalk in Milan or Paris.
But to turn your passion for fashion into a lucrative fashion career you need more than just the ideas and enthusiasm; you need technical and industry expertise to turn your creative energies into saleable apparel.
One thing fashion careers share, aside from being a rewarding outlet for your creative talents, is their starting point - fashion school. A fashion design education should prepare you for a fashion career, even if you find yourself working in a supporting role as you start out in the business.
Entering a fashion career begins with an innate ability to create unique and functional clothing styles and effectively communicate them on paper.
If you decide to study for a fashion career, you'll learn to design clothing and accessories or the fabrics and materials they're made of.
It is essential that anyone interested in a fashion career attend an accredited fashion schooling program that will address the fundamentals of fashion including design, drawing, textiles, sewing, and manufacturing. This fashion career education will be the core of your training on which you can lay the groundwork for experience.
Experience is ultimately the key when it comes to a fashion career.
Following school or even during it is imperative that you begin a fashion career with an internship or apprenticeship with an established design house. Building experience such as this can often jump start your fashion career and allow you to begin working on independent projects.
For those who have the ability, drive, and determination, a fashion career can be an amazing journey filled with success, self-satisfaction and great clothes. But dont let it ever be said that a fashion career does not require a significant amount of hard work and a vast amount of skill.
CONCLUSION
A fashion career can take many different forms, reflecting the various aspects of the fashion industry.
No matter what area or areas you're interested in, there is a fashion career specifically designed to suit your tastes.
To get your fashion career off the ground, it helps to decide at the outset which of the many fashion industry jobs you want to attain.
A starting point for your fashion career could be to study some of the articles about training and careers in fashion collected at the author's website. Your fashion career could be just a few mouse clicks away.

Free Resume Tips To Improve Your Chances
Free resume tip anyone? Struggling to write an effective resume is something that holds many people back in their search for career success and employment happiness. Luckily, it's not really that tough at all if you know how, so check out these 5 free resume tips to make your resume more effective!
Free Resume Tip 1-
Make sure your resume fits the bill. Far too many people just draw up a quick resume and submit the same thing to every vacancy they find. Needless to say, this is not usually too effective. Instead, rewrite it for every job you apply to, making sure all your stated skills and accomplishments match up with what the employer is looking for.
Free Resume Tip 2-
Show them what you can do for them. An employer is making a big investment in you when they take you on, and like anyone they want the biggest return on that investment. Show them what their returns will be by mentioning giving examples of your past achievements.
Free Resume Tip 3-
Don't mention your current/previous salaries unless they specifically ask for them. If you do mention detail like this, quite simply you may be putting an upward limit on your earnings, or even worse may price you out of the running completely. Leave stuff like this for when you get the interview, or better yet, for when you get the job offer, as only then do you have some real leverage.
Free Resume Tip 4-
Go for a simple style. The number one problem facing most job applicants is time-employers simply don't have time to give every application the time it may deserve, so you have to make it as easy as possible to read your resume. If you go for some outlandish or elaborate style with the hope of standing out, you will likely lose out because the employer will not make the effort to read it, and instead will move on to something simpler.
Free Resume Tip 5-
Try not to give too much work history. It's unlikely that every single position you have had is relevant to the one you are applying for, so try and cut it down to an easily digestible amount. In reality, most employers really won't care to know every single job you had since you left high school 25 years ago-with the time constraints faced by many businesses, it's simply not practice to go into every candidate's work history at such a depth.
As you can see, writing a resume is more about making the biggest impact you can in the least amount of time possible than it is about qualifications. Use these free resume tips to get ahead!
Resume Tips to Nail That Job Interview
Your resume is extremely important. Think about it. In the span of a few pages, you need to convey that YOU are worthy of at least being considered for that job vacancy. It really doesn't matter if you are applying for a manager job or an executive position, what's important is that the resume contents and resume layout fit the position at hand. Sadly, many ruin their chances at job success because they cannot format their resumes properly. Don't be one of them. Follow our resume tips and you'll get the chance you deserve.
Resume Tips to Help you Get that Job Interview Call
Before you go on your hunt for great job interview tips, you should first focus on writing a great resume. After all, the job interview will come IF your resume says you deserve it.
Resume Tip No. 1 - Different resume types require different resume formats.
Your resume is really your 'first impression' and just like any real, one-on-one interview, it's important that your resume conveys the right 'image'. For instance, an executive resume is best presented with a cover letter outlining the highlights of your career. For the succeeding pages, it's best to list your work experience in reverse chronological order (i.e., most recent first). For mid-level positions, a cover letter is not really required. For new graduates, it's best to start your resume with your educational attainment and any related 'on-the-job' training or seminars even if you are currently employed.
Apart from the above, you can't go wrong with using a clear, easy-to-read font like Times New Roman 10 pt or 12 pt. Also, assuming you send in your resume via email, use general Word processing software like Microsoft Word. Don't use the latest version as it may not yet be used by those handling recruitments, rending your resume un-openable and thus, useless.
Resume Tip No. 2 - Include a no B.S. executive summary.
Job recruiters get really annoyed when they're fed with Executive Summaries that are VAGUE. The Executive Summary must answer the question on why you are the best candidate for the job. The best resume layout for this would be to enumerate your skills in a bulleted list. Each skill should be written so that it clearly shows how that skill makes you a perfect fit for the job vacancy in particular, and the company in general.
Resume Tip No. 3 - Do NOT lie.
Who doesn't embellish his resume to get that job interview? That's true... but don't exaggerate to the point of lying either. For instance, you know that figures are great in resumes, but don't say "Managed a $50 million dollar publishing project..." if it you cannot back up that figure. Don't forget that job recruiters, especially for managerial and executive positions, really do check up with previous employers.
Resume Tip No. 4 - What about online resumes?
A great resume tip that doesn't cost anything at all is to view sample online resumes! There's a lot of information out there for different types of resumes with samples to boot so do give them a try. Apart from free samples, there are also ready-to-use online resume templates you can purchase where all you need to do is just 'fill out the blanks'. If you opt for this, just ensure that the template really fits your resume needs.
Resume Tip No. 5 - Hire a professional resume writer.
When all else fails, or if you don't have the time, or the job is simply too important that you want to go in with your BEST chance at landing a job interview, then by all means, get the services of a professional resume writer. Not everybody is blessed with having that special way with words so a professional CV writer can definitely help you. Note too that such a person can help you 'smooth out' some job history problems you may have such as employment gaps or 'job hopping' trends (i.e., moving from one job to another in relative short periods of time).
When it comes top writing resumes, you should always put your best foot forward so you get called for that job interview. Hopefully, the resume tips we've provided here helps you achieve exactly that.

Career Success For Women - The Foundation Question
Several studies point to the fact that men are more often motivated in their careers by high income and high power positions while women are motivated more often by connection, meaningful work and recognition. But in both cases, the road to success in most organizations means climbing the corporate ladder. And steps up the ladder are supported by rungs of leadership. You must be seen as a leader to move up.
While not easy, leadership is simple. As I write in No Ceiling, No Walls, it consists of a 3-part equation:
1. using your personal greatness/strengths to
2. achieve and sustain key outcomes by
3. engaging the greatness/strengths of others.
Our studies indicate that much of the advice that women have been given about leadership over-focuses on elements 1 and 3: identifying and cultivating their own strengths (74%) and developing the interpersonal skills to effectively engage others (24%). Advice about what it means to deliver key outcomes is sadly missing - only 2%.
This was not the case for Merrill Sherman, CEO of Bank RI who was advised early in her career, "Be for the business." This piece of wisdom is at the heart of the most important question a woman must ask and answer in order to build a successful career:
Do I/Can I believe in and support the mission, work and products/services of this company?
While a man who answers "no" might be motivated to succeed by the allure of higher power and compensation, if you answer "no" to this question, you are likely to find it difficult to wholeheartedly commit yourself to delivering key outcomes. Chances are good that you will be unable to engage your whole self at work. You are likely to burn out or be seen as retired-in-place. The chances of achieving your career goals will be lessened because you won't be seen as "being for the business."
If you answer "yes" to this question, it will be easy for you to engage your heart (passion), head (creativity and innovation) and hands (execution) to achieve and sustain key outcomes in service of your organization's strategy. You will substantially increase your chances of being seen as having potential. You will leave work each day feeling as though you've done something important - and that sense is the difference between distress that leaves you exhausted and eustress (positive stress) that energizes you.
So, look courageously in the mirror and ask yourself if you believe in the company you work for. If your honest answer is "no", create an action plan to move to a company in whose mission, work and products/services you can believe. If your honest answer is "yes", your work isn't over. Make sure that you are able to climb the ladder on rungs of leadership by ensuring that you get high marks on all 3 parts of the leadership and career success equation.

Lessons on Career Success From the Sport World
When we stop and think about it, there is not much difference between the rules that governs our career and the ones that are to be found in the sport world. Basically, the top performers in both fields are the ones who are best rewarded and they also are the ones who are the most dedicated.
We can learn a lot from the sport world, however for that to be done, we need to look at it with a dispassionate eye and cold logic. The glamour and the fantasies associated with the top athletes have to be put aside and replaced with cold hard facts.
As spectators, we tend to see what we want to see rather than focus on the reality of what it is to be a top performer. We tend to focus on the glory but not on the efforts and sacrifices required, we see the glitz but not the sweat.
We tend to believe that being an athlete is about playing all day long whereas being a career person is only about working all the time. That's one the first misconception. An athlete can see his sport as work and a career person can see his work as play
Whether we are working or playing depends strictly on the attitude and not with the process at hand. As a matter of fact, most of the elite in any area of endeavor see what they do as a game. That is the reason that they are so enthusiastic, focused and full of energy.
To succeed at anything, it has to be fun; it has to be exciting it has to hold the prospect of exhilarating rewards. With some imagination and mental discipline that state of mind can be achieved as well in a career as is can in any arena of the sport world.
The next lesson that we can learn from the sport world is about dedication and focus. A professional, whether it is in the business or sport world, has to be focused on one thing and that is winning. Anyone who is ambivalent about winning has no place in the top echelons.
That's a lesson that anyone who dreams of a six plus figure salary has to learn. The performance and the result have to commensurate with the reward. Either we produce and prevail or we fail and leave. That's how it is in the world of sport and that's what it is in real life.
In both worlds, it's survival of the fittest. It may sound cruel but that's how it is. The spoil goes the person who is hungrier and wants it the most. So long as ethic is respected and the laws are observed, anything goes.
Another great lesson that we can learn from the athletes is that they all have coaches and trainers; they rely on the expertise and guidance of others to insure that they always play at peak performance. In today's competitive world, there is little place for errors and no place for bad performances.
No one is above guidance and counseling. Tony Robbins is said to have three personal coaches and he is himself a personal coach for the elite few who can afford the one million dollars a year tab. Good coaches cost money but they are worth every penny spent.
The world of sport and the business/career worlds are very much alike. Something that every budding young lion should be aware off. To succeed and win, excellence is needed and excellence is acquired the same way no matter what place a person occupies.
That is something that you should keep in mind the next time you watch your favorite athlete in action; the man (or woman) is showing you what you need to know and do to reach the top.

Just know that no matter what career you choose, you may change your mind later. Even in College, it is normal to Change your Major at least once.
Statistics show that half of those with jobs end up not liking their careers at some point. And to top that, people usually change careers a few times during their lives. Young and Old change their minds about their Careers. Sometimes, this is the way people eventually find their Dream Jobs. They do it by testing the job waters. They work at this job a while, then at that job. They quit because there is some quality about the company, or the job they do not like, and then search for another job. Eventually, they gain enough experience and insight into themselves, and finally know what things they like and do not like in a job. Then, when that particular job comes along that blends in with the preferred skills they like using every day, they then know they have found their ideal career.
Questions to ask yourself -
* What Careers interest you?
* What things would you like and not like doing in a job?.
* What things fascinate you?
* What do you do as a Hobby?
* Do you have any Special Interests that could be turned into a Job?
* What do you like to think about?
* What do you find yourself daydreaming about?
The question is - How do you find out who you are, so that you can know what career is right for you? What we want to find out here, is who you are in relation to a compatible Career Choice. If you find a career cluster you fit into, then you can zero in on that particular job within the cluster you think you would enjoy being in.
For example, if the Career Cluster is Electronics, one needs to narrow it down even further. What kind of electronics do you prefer? Do you want to Repair Computers, or Design the Entire Computer as a Computer Engineer ready for Manufacture? Would you rather work for the FBI putting together electronic surveillance equipment, or assemble Motherboards in a Factory? It is all up to you what you want to do, depending upon your skills, education, training and abilities.
It is theorized, that if you have the same personality and interests as one in a certain job who likes his job, you will probably like that job too.
If you are inclined toward Art, Music and Writing, you should further explore and pursue these areas. When you take a Teen Quiz that inventories your job interests and career personality, your working style preferences will be matched to certain career jobs. These Occupations will be those known to attract and retain people with your particular personality.
You may be more of a hands-on type of person, and may still be interested in Art, but maybe your creations will require Welding your artistic model together for display. You may have the artistic inclination to make a masterpiece out of metal, but you will have to acquire the manual ability to Weld, through additional Training.
Are you into Scientific Research? You may have a Mind for Math and formulas. A Teen Quiz can help guide you to those careers that may be the best fit for your abilities and personality style.
The Teen Quiz may suggest Careers you never thought about. Consider these and explore - Visit people who have these jobs, and ask them what the job is like, and how they got into the career. You may start out with a job idea before you take the test, and end up with choices totally unrelated, that you would like doing just as well. Try to Keep an open mind, so you do not miss any potential opportunities - They can show up when you least expect them.
Know that You definitely fit inside some job, somewhere. The job exists that is perfect for your personality, interests and skills. Unless you have Transferrable skills, you may have to receive further training and education in order to be qualified to apply for that job. This is true for those with little or no experience in the new field they wish to break into, no matter what their age.
For example, I enjoy thinking about different things, rearranging my words, and typing my thoughts out. Those in my past would often mention how it seemed I would Dwell on things too much, or refer to me as Quote - The Thinker. I was not too amused. But, now I feel I have put my aptitude to positive, good use.
I never fit my Second Career together until recently. I now make pages for my Web site, write Career and Teen Quiz articles online, and am working on a book. Just like me, you have the Capability to fit all your abilities, skills, interests, aptitudes and values together, and Discover which career will match.
Remember, that no matter what age we are, that most of the time, we still can get the education and training required to get into that particular Career Choice of our dreams. It is almost never too early to begin planning for your Future Career, nor too late to change careers and search for a new one. The first step in planning for your first career, is taking a Teen Quiz.

My Five Top Tips to Boost Your Career Opportunities
Have you been made redundant? and face the daunting prospect of finding a career in your field of expertise? Where do you go? How do you start again?
Here are my five top tips to help you Boost Your Career Opportunities
1. Discover what you are good at
Think about what your previous job involved. Of those requirements, what areas were you best suited to and what areas, if you could, choose not to do again?
Use this time as an opportunity to re-evaluate your dream career using all the experience you have gained from previous employment.
2. Be Realistic
Stretch your boundaries but do not snap them!
Is your dream career realistic to your qualifications and expertise? Moreover, if they are not, are you willing to put in the time to meet those qualifications? If the answer is no, stop dreaming. Find what you are willing to do and to commit to.
3. Plan Your Day
Make the most of this extra time you have to research career opportunities, for example:
Devise a timetable, whereby you spend the mornings researching job availability, courses that could increase your career prospects and the afternoon applying, or working on a business plan idea. This will help you keep momentum and a sense of achievement at the end of each day.
4. Make achievable Steps
Have a list of tasks to do at the start of the week. You can then prioritise over the five days and tick them off as they are completed. That way you will not get complacent and it will help keep you focused on each task.
5. Do Not Take it Personal
It is ok to feel a bit despondent when you do not get a reply from a job application. However, do not let this stop you from applying to more. Because of the times we live in, employers are in undated with job applications at present.
Perseverance always brings results.

Top 5 Tips For Landing Your Next Social Work Job
1.) Be Visionary
Ever hear the saying, "When you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there?" Does this mantra guide your social work career? Have you thought about where you want to be five or ten years down the road? We are trained to ask this of our clients, but how often do we really ask this question for ourselves?
When developing your career path, you may find it helpful to think about a few things. You took the $13 an hour youth counseling job because that is the only one you could get at the time. Look around you. How many of your coworkers said the position was just temporary, only to be in the same spot, burnt-out, five years later? Are you where you thought you would be when you decided to become a social worker? What was that original passion and vision that moved you?
Have a future vision that motivates you and outline all the small roads that will get you there. Start with one road at a time (with time lines of course). Though following your passion may at times be difficult, just remember what Henry Ford said, "Whether you think you can or you can't, you're right." Believe you can!
2.) Who is in your Network?
As social workers we know everything is about our network, from finding our dream social work job, to creating social change. So, what area of social work do you want to be in and who do you know associated with that field? Perhaps more importantly, who don't you know that you need to know to get your break? How are you going to meet them?
Tap into your social network to get leads. Let EVERYONE know (by direct phone calls, emails, or visits) you are searching and what social work position you are searching for. You never know where an opportunity might come from. It can be helpful if you have an in to get acquainted with an organization, but if not, consider an internship or volunteer work. Many social workers have landed jobs through these opportunities. It's a win-win scenario. Perspective employers get to see a sample of your work and you get to see if an agency is a good fit for you.
You may want to consider the internet as an option for networking. You can find and introduce yourself to social workers on sites like LinkedIn or Facebook. Social Work Network is a similar site, but more specific to social work networking needs. You can find social workers by location, degree, school, company, and expertise/interests, as well as search thousands of social work jobs or internship and volunteer opportunities. These sites are free resources, so why not take advantage of them?
3.) Be Assertive
Ever want to say to an employer, "Don't call me, I'll call you"? You have the chance to do this at the end of your cover letter. Simply let the employer know you will contact them in a few days to discuss the position further. In a time where competition for social work jobs is fierce, such a technique may give you the edge.
Prior to calling, jot down a few things you want to know about the position, as well as a few points of value you add to it. Common questions are, "How did this position come to be open?" and "What is your hiring time line?" When you call, make sure the employer knows the call will only take a few minutes of their time. Here is a sample intro, "Hello Dr. Smith. My name is Andrea Ricci and I am calling about the Adult Advocate position listed on Social Work Network. I'll only take a few moments of your time [Shy away from asking whether or not it is a good time to talk, you might get shut-off immediately. Instead, get straight to the point]. I am interested in this position because I have my Master's Degree in Social Work and worked for seven years as the Adult Advocate for Yourtown Court [Just added value to the position and probably peaked employer's interest]. How did this position come to be open? [Nice open ended question]."
At the end of the phone call, ask for an interview. You don't want to leave the phone call open ended with the ball in the employer's court, so keep it in yours! Say something like, "It seems like my experience and this position are a good fit. Would it be possible to discuss this more in an interview? I have a portfolio of my work I would like to share for your review." You have nothing to lose by asking for an interview and now the employer is put in a position where they might say yes -especially if you're offering them a portfolio they may be interested in seeing.
4.) What's in your Portfolio?
Portfolios are excellent tools to showcase your skills and set you apart from the competition. It is generally a sampling of the work you have done during your social work career. Include, in a three ring binder, a label on the front with your name and contact information using bold, clear, traditional fonts. Use plastic sleeves to hold all of your documents and include a Table of Contents.
Here are some things to include in your portfolio: a resume (specifically tailored to the position you are applying for), grant proposals, press releases, media relations, anything that documents computer skills (presentation with PowerPoint, research with SPSS), research proposals, policy analysis, a professionally written letter, reference letters, supervisor evaluations, public testimony, certifications, etc. If it is not clear from looking at the document what it is, include a typed written white label on the lower right hand sleeve that includes the purpose, your role, and date of the project. Make sure to change the content of your portfolio for each job you interview to reflect competence in the skills necessary for each position.
Once you have a portfolio, hurl it in all your cover letters, phone calls, and job interviews. It is an extra incentive for employers to interview you and can sometimes make or break getting a position. When you leave your portfolio with a prospective employer, make a plan to pick it up. You may wish to ask the employer how long they would like to have the portfolio or you may choose to set a time line yourself, "I would like to leave my portfolio for your review. Would it be convenient if I stopped back on Friday to pick it up?"
5.) Check Yourself
Job hunting in the social work profession can be overwhelming. Make sure to take care of yourself through the process. Some people find it helpful to develop check-boxes of personal and professional tasks they wish to accomplish the next day. You may want to apply for three jobs, go to your son's soccer game, wash the car, and go to the gym. Include them all in one to do list, mixing them up if needed. The truth is...we only have one life. If one part of it is lapsing, it will affect the other. Tend to your personal needs equally with your professional ones so that both your private life and career are rising together and mutually benefiting one another.

Giveaway Recruiters - Your Next Job at Home? However most people don't know what these opportunities are actually about and jump in head first without actually knowing what they're getting involved in. Giveaway recruiters are people who offer trials of products and services to customers. This is a form of internet marketing in which advertisers earn commissions for referring customers to new products. The internet has made this type of work beyond easy since all you need is an internet connection and a website to start a business that really has unlimited potential. The real trick to becoming a successful internet marketer and ultimately a good giveaway recruiter is to understand how to generate online traffic. If you are planning for your next job at home to be in this industry then this is a must have skill. The backbone of internet commerce rests on internet traffic. Now there are several ways to drive traffic to your website or the current giveaway that you are participating in. The first is to advertise; if you have a budget you can take out ads on Google and other major search engines. This is a very effective method with the only drawback being that you need to have start-up cash. The other method that many giveaway recruiters use is to get people to their websites or blogs through good content. This involves writing entertaining posts that people want to read. They have to be related to the product that you are trying to advertise and give people some kind of incentive to keep reading your blog and to also try out the product that you are promoting. If this is going to be your next job at home then you need to learn and understand these strategies of marketing and advertising that the top giveaway recruiters are using to earn a living. The final step in becoming successful at this is to really know what kind of products you are dealing with. You don't want to stake your business reputation on some trial offer that is for a horrible product with bad customer service. You want to be sure to check out any product that you are promoting before you begin to run any kind of promotions for it. Many inexperienced giveaway recruiters ruin their entire careers by aligning themselves with the wrong companies and products. Jobs For Teens in a Recession
In the current recession, jobs for teens may seem impossible to find. Nevertheless, employers are still hiring in a vast array of industries, including traditional teen outlets like retail. Knowing one's skills and understanding the unique legal components to teenage work is essential for finding a key job.
One important way to find a job is by using an online job application. Recruiters for companies like Wal-Mart are constantly searching for talent, particularly as the summer approaches, but this is a great strategy for any time of the year. Too young for a resume? No way!
All a person needs to do is list his or her skills; most teenagers are socially adept and the bulk of jobs for teens focus on developing social skills, working with management and developing team strategies for getting work done. A teenager may have to think critically in such a dreadful economy, but it is possible to get work using technology like Facebook to search for jobs and read ads posted.
Many states require teenagers to be sixteen to start working and in some cases, a teenager may need a worker's permit; furthermore, work hours are limited because of regulations. For instance, an 18-hour workweek is the maximum number of hours permitted during the school year for teenagers between ages 14-15. 16-17 year olds may work an unlimited number of hours, but many managers are willing to work around school schedules and teenagers at this age range often work 8 hours, or the equivalent to a full-time shift, on the weekends.
Assuming a teenager has the legal qualifications to work, the next strategy is to decide what one likes doing. If, for example, a teenager enjoys folding clothes, communicating and helping customers during their shopping sprees, retail, such as a store like Sears, may be an intriguing option. Those preferring more manual work could look into delivering packages for Fed-Ex.
People hear gloom regarding economics, but stores will always need workers. Jobs for teens often represent that initial thrust into the world of independence and self-awareness. A teenager must never give up and plan to look for some time. It may take up to six months to find a job, but teenagers should make use of technology, cast a wide net and make sure they have the maturity to start working. If they can follow the outlined steps, most likely a teenager will soon start working.

Teen Career Planning - Help Your Teen To Start Early
By Abhishek Agarwal
Teens have to decide on the career that they want to pursue and their college major, not necessarily in that order. Deciding upon a college major is a difficult task by itself and takes time. Similarly, deciding upon a career path is a process that should start when the teen is still in high school and continue as that person moves into college. The reason being that career choices are fluid and young people are bound to discover new things about themselves, their likes and dislikes and skills as they go along though studies.
Selecting the right career is never an easy matter. Career planning is a process that involves several steps, particularly when it is for a teen. Both universities and business organizations have designed programs for teenagers to assist them in identifying suitable options and making a right choice of career. Such guidance can be obtained by making a payment from a university, by a student as well as any member of the public. The guide can include a questionnaire and information about several careers. The questionnaire helps the person to narrow the choices based on several criteria. A program that has been designed well could also throw light on several career choices that the person may not have known about, effectively broadening his or her horizon. Also, as young people are not clear about the growth path of different careers, they also gain clarity on this issue.
Career counselors and teenage counselors have always said that young people and college students must select a career based on their own interest and skills, not due to pressure of family or peers or some image that may have of a particular career. Thus the so called 'best' careers may not always be the right choice. Career planning for teens is a process that will try to dissuade them from such a career unless it suits the individual for reasons mentioned earlier. So many websites and magazines may list hottest jobs, best jobs for collegiates and those with highest salary and perks. However, this is not the right way to decide upon a career and hot jobs should not become an automatic choice for a teen or a young job seeker.
The process of career planning for teens exists to make sure that they select the career path and college program that is best for them as an individual. A lot of young believe, quite wrongly, that they will be stuck with the career choice that they make now, through out their life. Nothing could be more different. People change their career at several stages during their life. So, a career that is chosen now due to a college major or a training program can be changed later. However, career planning for teens goes a long way in ensuring that there is not much heart burn later.

How to present an idea to your employer
After getting a great job using your skills, you develop several years of experience. All at once, you have a sensational idea to improve company productivity.
But you're not the brass. Getting someone in charge to listen to your idea seems like a remote possibility. Yet there are things you can do to get the attention of a supervisor for a quick pitch of your proposal. Here's what to do:
1. Streamline your idea. Make it smooth, sharp, and clear. Avoid clumsy wording, vague references, and faulty grammar. Trim it to a length of no more than three pages, and preferably just one. Use bolded or bullet headings to highlight key areas. Then list short phrases that describe how the plan will unfold. Ask a trusted co-worker or family member to go over it with a fine-toothed comb, then revise to strengthen the final draft.
2. Make an appointment. Work with the administrator's secretary to choose a date and time when the person will not feel rushed. Wait until an important project is concluded or the supervisor's work load slows down. A mid-week day, just after lunch (perhaps 1:30), works well for many proposals.
3. Look your best. Following the usual office dress code, wear an outfit that makes you feel confident and competent. Style your hair neatly. Don't wear much jewelry, cosmetics, or fragrance. Wear comfortable shoes, and when invited in for your pitch, sit straight but comfortably.
4. Behave professionally. Don't come on too strong. Smile a little, but not in a way that seems silly or non-serious. Thank the administrator for allowing you to stop by, and promise not to take too much time.
5. Present your idea in less than five minutes, preferably three. Start with a title or summary, then state a few key points with details or examples. Emphasize benefits to the company, such as saving time, cutting costs, or pleasing customers. Provide a "back door" to let the boss refuse, if necessary, such as "I realize you may need time to think it over" or "We haven't tried this approach before, but I believe it will work." Invite questions at the end of your overview. Leave a fact sheet or one-page summary of your proposal for later review.
6. Whatever your listener's response, offer thanks for the time and appreciation for hearing you out. If a "no" response is given on the spot, still say thanks, and ask if it might be considered a little further down the road, say in six months, unless you feel this would be too pushy. If the administrator requires time to think about your idea, offer to provide additional information if needed. You can mention checking back in a week or two if that is convenient.
7. Follow up courteously, without being pushy. If you promised to check back in two weeks, don't call before then. If you hear the administrator has been out of town on travel, allow some time for him or her to catch up with the work flow before checking on your proposal.
Whatever the final response, maintain a polite air of gratitude. You never know when the door that has just shut firmly in your face might open unexpectedly. Keep a record of your meeting and its outcome for future reference; another administrator might be looking for a similar idea later. Never give up with sharing suggestions or proposals. That is how great things come to pass, sooner or later.

Senior executive resume writing guide
Senior executives looking for work in today’s global market know it is essential to have a great resume. Many employees do not know how to use key words to describe their previous experience. In fact, many executive employees have job titles that weaken their resumes. The importance of knowing how to write a resume using key words to describe previous job experiences, abilities, and qualifications is essential to getting ahead in this global world. Remember a resume is a tool to market “the applicant” to the employer to get an interview.
The career objective statement:
The first step to having a great resume begins with a hook – a statement that will grab the attention of the reader. This hook is usually found in the beginning section of the resume called objectives. State the type of job wanted and why the applicant has the qualifications to do this type of work. Often if the employer’s attention is not caught in the first sentence he may not read much further. It is important to remember that a resume is a tool to get an interview. Determine what the employer wants for the specific position and then state the applicant’s qualifications and skills that meet these needs. The resume must convince the employer that the applicant is more qualified than his/her competitors.
Education:
An executive resume needs to show where the applicant obtained his/her education as well as listing classes that are job related to the position. Many employees have returned to college to get different types of degrees that have helped them climb the career ladder. What classes has the applicant completed? What computer programs does the applicant know? List any classes important to the position.
Experience:
The resume must describe any past experiences, skills, and abilities necessary for the position. Begin by making a list of all skills, abilities, experiences, and previous employment. While many people do not want to brag about themselves, it is essential to do a little bragging.
Be sure to list all job activities, projects, and special skills the applicant has. What “buzz” words describe these skills? What are some of the qualifications and skills of the applicant? Does the applicant have any leadership qualities? Does the applicant perform well under deadlines? What are his/her interpersonal skills? Be specific about what abilities and skills the applicant has.
Hobbies and Interests:
It is important for the applicant to show the employer that he/she can meet deadlines and can be counted on to finish projects. Does the applicant have any hobbies? Does he/she have leadership skills? Does the applicant belong to any local clubs?
Length of resume:
One to two pages are acceptable in length. Remove any lengthy descriptions that might not be related to the specific position. Has the applicant described his/her skills, qualifications, and abilities?
Revision process:
Once the resume is written it is essential to proofread it. Check for correct spelling. Check the dictionary if needed. Check for grammatical errors. Ask a friend to read over the resume. Make any needed changes.
